Keep good documentation

If possible, record the telephone call when the mortgage lenders, universities or whatever other spamvertised merchants call you back. It makes it easier to prove that “Company A” called you back if the whole thing is on tape.

Only 12 states require that 2 or more people have to know (give consent) that they are being recorded. They are:

CaliforniaConnecticutDelawareFlorida
IllinoisMarylandMassachusettsMichigan
MontannaNew HampshirePennsylvaniaWashington

The remaining states not listed above only require 1 party consent (you). Generally speaking, you may want to stick with the state that has the stricter law regarding telephone recording to be safe. If you’re calling from one state to another state that does not appear on the list above then you are well within your rights to secretly record the call.

If you used unique contact info on the form that you filled out after clicking the link in the spam then you will always be able to trace back the customer thay are calling for with the specific form you filled out when you set the spam trap.

Print out the spam, the web site form with all your information filled in as well as any emails a lead purchaser may send you after you set your trap.
